Our success in Nigeria has been possible due to our commitment to creating lasting value and sustainable development. For over two decades, we have supported the Akassa Community in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State through the Akassa Development Foundation. The support has evolved around addressing limitations to community development and has won several awards for good corporate governance through the years the program has existed.聽
Together with the Agbami Partners, we have spent about USD 96 million on the provision of 25 Chest Clinics in various parts of the country to support early diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis and other chest and lung diseases, in addition to the development of local talents through the provision of science laboratories in schools, scholarships to students and entrepreneurial and skills acquisitions training.
Equinor鈥檚 social investment programme is now to be aligned with the Equinor Nigeria Shared Value Plan. The ambition of the Shared Value Plan is to link company interest with community social needs and this will be achieved by providing communities in Nigeria with the means to improve their livelihood through access to energy. Our social investment focus is now geared towards providing off-grid power solutions to communities that are not connected to the national grid. This will be pursued through low-carbon solutions such as solar and other renewable sources.
Equinor also aims to contribute to shaping the Nigerian oil and gas industry and is supporting the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), aimed at improving Nigeria鈥檚 business climate.
